When I started Wooster Advisors, the idea was simple: help founders and CEOs build their first sales engine. For more than a decade, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with venture-backed leaders to put the fundamentals in place—comp plans, hiring strategies, and playbooks that gave them the foundation to grow.
But here’s the truth I’ve learned over and over again: growth takes much more than sales.
Today, companies are expected to scale faster and smarter the moment they raise a new round. But success requires more than one great hire or a sales playbook—it takes a coordinated go-to-market approach that connects sales, marketing, product-led growth, and operations. And while many leadership teams understand this, they often face gaps—sometimes in people, sometimes in experience, and sometimes in both.
Historically, companies have had two imperfect options: hire for senior leadership for each gap, or patch things together with junior talent. Neither option is ideal in practice.
